Nicolas Sordet

Nicolas Sordet (* 1958 in Geneva ) is a Swiss improvisation musician ( piano , synthesizer ) and composer of electroacoustic music .

Act

Sordet started playing the piano early and was soon interested in improvisation . He studied linguistics until he graduated. In the 1980s he began working on composition and electro-acoustic music in the ESPACES studio in Geneva under the direction of Rainer Boesch . He learned programming to develop composition models on various microcomputers . He also programmed computers and processors for Boesch ( Clavirissima 1988). In Central and Western Europe and North America he played improvisation concerts with musicians such as Barre Phillips , Hans Koch and Tristan Murail . He composed works such as Clair Polaire (on the album Swiss Waves , 1995), Graphe Uni (1998) or Lai contre-fait (1999) . With Béatrice Graf , Claude Tabarini and Claude Jordan he formed the group No Techno Dance , which released the album Hand Made in 2005 on Unit Records .

Since the 1990s, Sordet has been teaching electroacoustics at the Geneva Conservatory, where he is a professor at the studio for creative experiments, and at the Jaques Dalcroze Institute. He also teaches a computer music course at the Musicology Department of the University of Geneva . At the same time he develops interactive sound generation and processing programs for electronic live music. Sordet can also be heard on albums by Butch Morris , Maurice Magnoni and Tristan Murail ( Treize Couleurs du soleil couchant ).
