Nicolas Vallet
Nicolas Vallet (* around 1583 in Corbeny near Laon / France ; † after 1642 in Amsterdam (?)) Was a French-Dutch lutenist, lute composer and music publisher.
Life
Nicolas Vallet (also Nicolaus Valet), who was a Huguenot , had to flee from France to the Netherlands. In Amsterdam he worked from 1613 as a self-employed musician, lute teacher and owner of a dance school. His main work “Le Secret des Muses” in French tablature contains compositions and arrangements for a ten-course Renaissance lute. It appeared in two parts in 1615 and 1616. He was one of the last composers for this instrument before it was replaced by the (differently tuned) baroque lute . He also composed the 21 Psalms of David in 1615 and the Regia Pietas for voice and lute in 1622 .
