Nicolaus Jantzon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nicolaus Jantzon (also Nicolaus Jentzen ; * 1720 ; † 1791 ) was a German organ builder who created important baroque organs in Lithuania and Belarus .

Life

Nicolaus Jantzon probably came from Hamburg or its surroundings. In 1752 he was involved in work on the organ in the Lutheran Church in Vilnius under Gerhard Arend cell . In the following year he married his daughter Anna Elisabeth, in 1761 he took over the workshop of his father-in-law after his death. In the following years he created important organs in Lithuania and what is now Belarus.

Works (selection)

Only three organs are certain in the St. Bernard Church in Vilnius, in Braslaw and in Troškūnai of Jantzon. All other works are attributions based on a similar design. In Lithuanian research today it is considered possible that some of these works could only come from his environment.

The organs in Budslau and Tytuvėnai , as well as brochures in the Bernardine Church , the Church of St. John and the Cathedral in Vilnius, have been preserved.
