Nicos Jaritz

Nikola "Nicos" Jaritz (* 1953 in Leutschach / Styria ) is an Austrian percussionist and band leader of Latin jazz .

Jaritz first played the snare drum in school bands, with whom he played beat music and blues . After winning a band competition, The Skin was first recorded in an ORF studio. Since 1975 he was in the jazz scene of Graz actively worked since 1978 with Karlheinz Miklin and Ewald Oberleitner in his sextet together. Two years later he made his first LP under the title Macumba with both Afro-Brazilian compositions by Jaritz and pieces by Miklin. Further LPs by the Jaritz Ensemble and the Jaritz Unidad followed until 1992. These recordings, which were often the basis for remixes by DJs , also made him famous in Cuba . From 1993 Jaritz published his recordings on the Graz jazz label SOS Music.
