Nid d'Aigle ( eagle's nest ) is the name of a location in the French Alps . It consists mainly of the terminus of a mountain railway and the nearby mountain hut Refuge du Nid d'Aigle and restaurant.

railway station

The station “Gare du Nid d'Aigle” is the terminus of the Tramway du Mont-Blanc , an electrically operated rack railway in the Mont-Blanc massif . At 2,362 meters, it is the highest train station in France .

The cable car runs from the valley station in Le Fayet via the health resort of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains to the Nid d'Aigle. Due to the danger of avalanches in the upper section, rail operations already end in the lower Bellevue station in the winter months.

tourism

The mountain station is a starting point for mountaineers who want to climb Mont Blanc , the Aiguille de Bionnassay and other mountains in this mountain range. Experienced hikers can also go to the Refuge de Tête Rousse , from where you have a view of the ice wall of the Aiguille de Bionnassay.

Others

The mountain hut, which was destroyed in a fire, and the restaurant were rebuilt in 2006 several hundred meters from the terminus at an altitude of 2,412 meters.
