The Refuge de Tête Rousse is a refuge at 3,167 meters above sea level in the French part of the Mont-Blanc massif , Haute-Savoie department . The house, which is managed in summer, belongs to the Saint Gervais section of the Club Alpin Français (CAF).

Location and importance

The hut is about two kilometers east of the Nid d'Aigle mountain station ( 2372  m ) of the Tramway du Mont Blanc cog railway . Along with the Refuge du Goûter, it is an important base for climbing Mont Blanc on the normal route via the Dôme du Goûter from the west. To avoid altitude sickness, many mountaineers spend the night in these huts before starting the ascent. It is open from the beginning of June to the end of September.

Construction of the hut

In the years 2002 to 2005 a new house was built next to the old hut in a special wooden construction. The new building had become necessary because the old hut, which had now been closed, had become too small due to the ever increasing number of overnight stays and the technical equipment such as energy supply and sewage disposal were no longer acceptable.
