The Niederlausitzer Museumseisenbahn eV (NLME) is an association of railway enthusiasts based in Finsterwalde . He is the owner and operator of the Finsterwalde – Crinitz railway line in the Elbe-Elster district in Brandenburg, which is used for museum purposes .

Club history

The Niederlausitzer Museumseisenbahn eV (NLME) was founded on April 1st, 1995 as a recognized non-profit association. The aim of the association is the construction and operation of a museum railway on the former DR line from Finsterwalde to Crinitz and the preservation or reconstruction of historically valuable contemporary witnesses of the regional railway history. It is intended to create a special attraction in the Elbe-Elster district.

On September 10, 1997, the Finsterwalde – Crinitz railway line, including ancillary areas, was purchased by Deutsche Bahn AG. Since 1997, several small diesel locomotives as well as mostly 100-year-old passenger and freight cars have been transferred and the repair and reconditioning of the cars has started.

In 2002 the steam storage locomotive was handed over by BASF Schwarzheide. Through cooperation with the responsible bodies in the ministries of the State of Brandenburg, all requirements for the start of public transport were gradually implemented.

On April 5, 2002, the association received the approval to operate a railway infrastructure and to provide rail transport services in passenger transport. The infrastructure connection costs and route fees for the connection to the network of Deutsche Bahn AG as well as the bridge maintenance and maintenance costs would have exceeded the financial framework of the NLME, so there was no connection to other railways.

Thanks to the biennial station festival and other activities such as the gourmet tour, mulled wine tour, Nikolausfahrt, the slaughter festival and the trips to the annual pottery market in Crinitz, it has built a high profile in the region.

vehicles

The museum train consists of two Prussian-style passenger cars that were restored to their delivery condition, a baggage car from a Prussian small railroad and a combined passenger and luggage car from the DR . A DB-type conversion car, a bicycle and a saloon car can also be used for reinforcement . The club also owns several freight cars, some of which also date from the time of the regional railways .
