The SKL 25 track car was developed and built for track construction and track maintenance at the Deutsche Reichsbahn in the GDR by the plant for track construction mechanics in Brandenburg . It is the successor to the SKL 24 .

While there were only minor changes to the overall length compared to the SKL 24, the driver's cab of the SKL 25 was enlarged and the performance increased. The two most important types of the SKL 25 are with and without a loading crane . In the version with loading crane, the maximum payload of the vehicle drops to 3000 kg due to the higher dead weight .

In 1992, production of the SKL 25 was discontinued in favor of the SKL 26 .
