The SKL 26 track motor vehicle was developed by the DR track construction works for tasks in track construction and track maintenance. It was built both for the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) in the GDR and, from 1994, for its successor Deutsche Bahn AG .
Development and technology
The development and construction of the first vehicles took place in the period between the reunification of Germany and the German rail reform , so it is still a vehicle of the Deutsche Reichsbahn, although components from West German manufacturers have already been installed.
The vehicle was almost completely redesigned and has only minor similarities to its predecessor, the SKL 25 . The most noticeable innovation compared to its predecessor is the newly developed driver's cab , which, in addition to technical innovations, has a significantly more modern appearance, larger window areas and sliding doors instead of the previously used folding doors. As a result of reunification, it was now also possible for the DR to obtain engines, gearboxes and loading cranes from manufacturers who were not represented in the GDR. In addition to Atlas cranes, engines from MAN and Deutz were installed, while the transmissions built into the SKL 26 were from ZF and Clark . In contrast to the SKL 25, no variant was offered without a loading crane. A bracket for a coupling rod for moving vehicles with a regular screw coupling is located above the coupling on the front .
The top speed is 80 km / h, which is significantly more than that of the previous model. This increase was necessary because the regular train speeds had also increased and the older SKL thus represented a hindrance on regularly traveled routes.
The possible combinations of engine and gearbox led to four types of SKL 26, which are differentiated by the company number: type number 26 designates vehicles with Deutz engines, type number 29 those with MAN engines. The following number differentiates between the gearboxes from ZF (26.1 or 29.1) and Clark (26.2 or 29.2). Despite these distinctions, the serial number of the vehicles is unique.
A trailer with the designation H 26 was developed for the SKL 26, which replaced the GKW-A which had already been developed for the SKL 24 in production. From 1992 the track construction mechanics plant produced over 30 copies of these.
In 1994 the successor model was presented with the GAF 100 , which is largely based on the SKL 26. The production of the SKL 26 was then discontinued the following year.
commitment
In addition to being used in track construction and maintaining the regular route network, some vehicles were also used for special tasks. The SKL 29.1.046 replaced an SKL 24 as a rescue and control vehicle for the fire control tunnel . The vehicle with the number 29.2.032 is used on the Oberweißbacher Bergbahn as a work vehicle, the vehicle is also used on the funicular (from a platform originally designed for the transport of freight cars) (see also web link).
Numerous vehicles are still used by Deutsche Bahn today, some have since been sold to private railway companies.
