The Niederrheinhalle is an event hall in Wesel am Rhein . It is located in the district of Fusternberg near the Wesel train station .

Location, equipment and use of the building

The Niederrheinhalle is located on the An de Tent street near the Wesel train station and the city center on the other side of the railway system. Due to its original function as the hall of the shooting club , the main entrance is a bit away from the street, as it should face a meadow used by the shooting club. There is a park adjacent to the hall. The main hall of the hall is 1,400 square meters and designed for up to 1,250 guests. It also has the 450 square meter parquet hall and an upper tier that can also be used. It serves a variety of different events. These include folk festivals such as the Schützenfest and Carnival, a flea market, party events, private celebrations and individual sporting events. The awarding of the Wesel donkey order takes place annually in the Niederrheinhalle. Artists also regularly use the hall for performances, including Dieter Nuhr and the Wise Guys . However, the Wesel City Theater is planned as the city's theater .

history

The building was planned in the 1950s as an event location for the Weseler Bürgererschützenverein and supported by financial grants from the city. The foundation stone was laid on May 23, 1955 and the shell was completed in the same year so that it could already be used for a rifle festival. At the beginning of 1962 the hall became the property of the city of Wesel. In 1993 it was extensively renovated.

Well-known personalities who have visited the hall include Federal Chancellors Willy Brandt , Helmut Kohl , Gerhard Schröder and Angela Merkel . In addition to Dieter Nuhr, Wolfgang Petry and Andrea Berg appeared in the hall. The sponsors of the Donkey Order, for which an annual award event has been held in the Niederrheinhalle since 1976, include Klaus Töpfer , Hanns-Dieter Hüsch , Jan Hofer , Manfred Breuckmann , Dieter Nuhr and Michael Kessler .
