Michael Weinzierl

Michael Weinzierl (born August 6, 1950 in Vienna ; † June 19, 2002 there ) was an Austrian historian . He was an associate professor for modern history at the University of Vienna .

Life

Weinzierl, grandson of the lawyer and ministerial official Moriz Weinzierl , was the older of two sons of the physicist Peter Weinzierl (1923–1996) and the contemporary historian Erika Weinzierl (1925–2014), née. Fisherman. His brother is the Germanist and journalist Ulrich Weinzierl (* 1954). He attended the Catholic private school Schottengymnasium in the 1st district of Vienna ( Inner City ).

He then studied history, art history and political science at the University of Vienna and in 1971 became a research assistant at the Institute for History there. In 1975, he was then at Gerald Stourzh with the dissertation Republican politics and republican political theory, from 1658 to 1660 for Dr. phil. PhD.

He became a university assistant; In 1988 he completed his habilitation with the work published in 1993, The Transformation of English Political Culture and the Beginnings of Modern Conservatism . Weinzierl then became a university lecturer in modern history. In 1996 he received the title of associate professor (tit. Ao. Prof.), from 1999 he was associate professor .

He was a member of the editorial team of the Viennese magazine on the history of modern times .

Weinzierl dealt with English history , revolutions , religion and political culture .
