Low water information service Bavaria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The low water information service (NID) of the Bavarian State Office for the Environment in Augsburg is based on the model of the Bavarian flood news service at the same state office. It makes its information available to the public as well as to the water industry for an early response to circumstances and relationships in rivers and lakes in Bavaria caused by low water levels .

task

The information service has set itself the task of forecasting and documenting the expected change in precipitation distribution with regard to dry periods due to the currently emerging climate change . In addition, reference is made to the possible effects of low water . For example, the NID detects water shortages in northern Bavaria . This is counteracted by dams and the transfer of water from the Danube into the main area.

Data acquisition

To obtain the data, the automated measuring network of 550 gauges is mainly used to measure water levels and runoff in Bavarian rivers and lakes. These are supplemented by the evaluation of the data from a further 320 precipitation measuring stations and the measuring networks for water quality in Bavaria.

Publication of the data

Since 2008, the recorded measured values have been processed by the NID and published on the Internet in both cartographic and tabular form according to ten regions.

Are available for each level current measurements, statistics, master data for the measuring points with position indication as well as information on special values at low water on each level. Percentile values are used as the basis for the classification of low water :

A level is rated as "low" if it is below 75% of all measured values recorded at the respective measuring point. A "very low" level is when it is below 90% of all measured values recorded at this point.

Data on groundwater, water temperature and hydrological runoff are also published .

development

The NID documents dry periods in clear dossiers . The oldest dossiers on low water events are from 1947, the most recent dossier deals with the drought of 2007.

The measuring network will be gradually expanded until 2011.
