The Niegripper See is a body of water in central Saxony-Anhalt south of the eponymous place Niegripp .

The Niegripper Lake has a size of 1,186 square kilometers . Its mean depth is 5.54 meters, the maximum depth 16.6 meters. The lake has two superficial tributaries and groundwater inflow or flow through it. The lake's water exchange time is more than 30 days.

The lake is of anthropogenic origin. It was created in a gravel mine . Gravel mining began in 1954. The nearby Niegripper old canal was used for transport . In 1976, the Niegripper See was cut through to the south to the Elbe-Havel Canal , which was then used to carry out shipments over water.

Lake Niegripper, including its passage to the Elbe-Havel Canal, is Landeswasserstraße . In this context, the Land Shipping and Port Ordinance apply to it. The area of ​​application is indicated by signs. Furthermore, sailing on the Niegripper See by sport and recreational boats is permitted. Commercial shipping is subject to approval. The speed on the lake is limited to 8 km / h . Driving with jet skiing and water skiing and kite surfing are not allowed.

Lake Niegripper has been designated as bathing water by the state of Saxony-Anhalt . There is a bathing beach . Part of the lake in the south is designated as a bird sanctuary . There are also two nameless islands in the area.
