Niels Klim Prize

The Niels Klim Prize ( Danish Niels Klim-pris ) is a Danish literary prize that has been awarded since 2012 for works from the field of science fiction with a maximum length of 40,000 words. The award is made on the basis of a vote among Danish readers of science fiction literature. The organization is in the hands of Lise Andreasen, member of the Science Fiction Circle and author of various SF blogs, who also runs the website of the award. The name of the award refers to Niels Klim, main character in the fantastic novel Niels Klim's underground journey (1741) by Ludvig Holberg .

Awards are given in the following categories:

  • Short novel (kortroman) : 17,500–39,999 words, Danish-speaking author
  • Novella (long novella) : 7,500–17,499 words, Danish-speaking author
  • Short story (novelle) : 1-7,499 words, Danish-speaking author
  • Translation (oversat): 1–39,999 words, translated work by a non-Danish speaking author

The winners of the award will receive a trophy designed by Manfred Christiansen. Initially, a translation of the award-winning work into English was part of the award, but this was discontinued due to a lack of volunteers.
