Niels Hansen (born July 25, 1983 in Flensburg ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Niels Hansen began his career in his home village Husby with the local amateur club. He played at TSV Husby until 1997 before going to TSV Nordmark Satrup . The defensive midfielder moved to Büdelsdorfer TSV after two years . However, he only played there in the 1999/2000 season before he made the jump to Holstein Kiel in the B-youth . There he became a regular player in the Regionalliga and completed 34 season games in the 2004/05 season.

At the beginning of the 2005/06 season , Hansen moved from Holstein Kiel to SC Freiburg .

Hansen played his first game in the 2nd Bundesliga against 1. FC Saarbrücken on the 9th match day of the 2005/06 season. His first goal in the 2nd division he succeeded on February 12, 2006 in stoppage time to the 2-0 final against Kickers Offenbach .

For the 2007/08 season he moved to league rivals FC Carl Zeiss Jena . In the summer of 2008 he extended it by one year and led the team of FC Carl Zeiss Jena as captain in the 08/09 season.

On June 11, 2009, Hansen signed a contract with VfL Osnabrück until June 30, 2011.

His goal to make it 1-0 against Hamburger SV on September 23, 2009 played a key role in the third division side's surprising victory in the DFB Cup against the Bundesliga leaders. With VfL Osnabrück he rose to the 2nd Bundesliga as champions of the 3rd league in 2009/10 . After only one year, however, he was relegated to the third division in 2011 when he was sixteenth in the table.
