Nienburger gate tower
The Nienburger Gate Tower or Nienburger Stadtturm is a late medieval gate tower in the city of Bernburg (Saale) . It is designated as a cultural monument .
history
The Nienburger gate tower was part of the north-eastern city wall of the old town of Bernburg in the direction of Nienburg (Saale) . When the city was founded, a gate tower is said to have served primarily as a "shepherd's tower" with a gate for cattle drives . In the 15th century, the Nienburger gate tower was built as the "New Gate".
Building
The rectangular tower with striking Renaissance - gables is in the lower three-quarters of unplastered dry stone masonry . It has several rectangular windows. The southeast side of the arched gate opening narrows out of town. Its entrance, a round arched door several meters high, is on its northwest side. Two consoles are attached under this . The renaissance gables are plastered and structured with cornices and pilaster strips . The roof is covered with gray slate .
