Nigel Mills

Nigel John Mills (born 1974 in Jacksdale , Nottinghamshire ) is a British Conservative Party politician . He has been a member of the House of Commons since 2010 .

Family and education

Mills was born in Jacksdale to Rosemary and John Mills. He holds a degree in classical antiquity sciences at Newcastle University . In 1999 he was admitted as a sworn auditor . Mills was in a relationship with Gillian Shaw until her death in 2006. In January 2013, Mill's engagement to Alice Elizabeth Ward, eldest daughter of Mary and John Ward, was announced. The couple were married on September 14 of that year in the Chapel of St Mary Undercroft in the Palace of Westminster . The two live in Langley Mill .

Professional background

Mills worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers from 1996 to 2008 . In 1998 he accepted a position as a tax advisor for business clients at Deloitte , where he worked until his election to the House of Commons.

Political career

Mills began his political engagement in 1997 at the local level. He was a member of the Town Council of Heanor and Loscoe . In 2004 he was elected to the Amber Valley Borough Council . He gave up these offices in May 2011. He was previously elected to the House of Commons in the general election for the Amber Valley constituency . He prevailed with a lead of only 536 votes against the previous incumbent of the Labor Party , Judy Mallaber . Mills has served on the Administrative Committee since his election . He has also been a member of the Northern Ireland Committee since 2011 and the Labor and Pensions Committee since 2012 . During the parliamentary summer break in 2011, he took part in a volunteer program in Tajikistan , advising the local government on issues relating to environmental protection and the labor market. He was able to defend his seat in the lower house elections in 2015 and 2017.

In 2013, Mills was named MP of the Year by The Spectator magazine .
