Amber Valley is an administrative district with borough status in Derbyshire , England , named after the River Amber . The administrative seat is the city of Ripley ; other important places are Alfreton , Belper , Codnor , Heanor and Heage .
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was formed from the merger of the urban districts Alfreton, Belper and Heanor and the rural districts Ripley and Belper.
