Nika Fontaine

Nika Fontaine (* 1985 in Montreal ), maiden name Nicolas Fontaine , is a Canadian transgender artist who lives and works in Berlin . In her art is about the role of stereotypes and key , decorum and tradition as a visual structures as meaningful interpretive, cultural dispositive act and sometimes the boundaries of kitsch exceed and the perception of aesthetic challenge. Two other important aspects of her more recent work are spirituality and mysticism, two concepts that have become increasingly important for Fontaine in her practice. On the one hand, she takes up the cultural dispositive and visual structures, and on the other hand, her personal transformation and growth - experiences and enrichments that she tries to share with the viewer.

Nika Fontaine first studied fashion design at the Collège d'enseignement général et professionnel (Cégep) Marie-Victorin , Montreal in 2001 before deciding to go into art. In 2008 she completed her first degree in painting and drawing at Concordia University , Montreal, and then moved to Berlin to receive her diploma in painting at the Berlin-Weissensee School of Art in 2012 . One year later she received her title of master class student from Werner Liebmann , also at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art.
