The German bank Kunsthalle was until 2018 a showroom in Berlin headquarters Deutsche Bank . The program focused on international contemporary art.

history

Founded in 1997 as Deutsche Guggenheim , Deutsche Bank operated the gallery space together with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation for 15 years . By the end of 2012, 61 exhibitions were on view here.

Since 2013, the KunstHalle has been operated under the sole responsibility of Deutsche Bank. Before it actually opened, the KunstHalle initiated the MACHT KUNST campaign: Anyone could submit a work of art that was presented to the public for 24 hours. Due to the great popularity, there were two exhibitions with a total of more than 2000 works of art, 12,000 visitors and eight winners of public and jury awards.

The KunstHalle officially opened in April 2013 with a solo exhibition by Imran Qureshi , Deutsche Bank's 2013 “Artist of the Year”.

In May 2017 it became known that the Deutsche Bank KunstHalle will give up its premises in the Berlin headquarters. After the last exhibition ended, the location was closed in spring 2018. Henceforth, the exhibition activities of Deutsche Bank find where to PalaisPopulaire converted Prinzessinnenpalais instead.

location

The KunstHalle was located on the ground floor of the Berlin headquarters of Deutsche Bank in the Mitte district . In the 1920-built sandstone building Unter den Linden 13-15 installed the American architect Richard Gluckman a 510 square meter gallery space.

Conception

The Deutsche Bank KunstHalle saw itself as a platform for international contemporary art. One focus of the program was on exhibitions from the Deutsche Bank Collection designed by artists and guest curators . Deutsche Bank's “Artist of the Year” was also presented in a solo exhibition in the KunstHalle. In addition, the house presented exhibitions that were designed in cooperation with Berlin and international art institutions.

Placement program

The aim of the Deutsche Bank KunstHalle was to bring contemporary art to the largest possible audience. The contents of the respective exhibitions were conveyed through a guided tour program tailored to the individual visitor groups: Together with the Deaf Association Berlin e. V. and the Berlin Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, the KunstHalle developed management concepts that were tailored to the needs of deaf, blind and visually impaired people. In addition, the house offered an art program for children, young people and families at every exhibition. Under the guidance of experts and artists, children and young people were able to discover their own creativity in workshops and holiday programs.
