Imran Qureshi

Imran Qureshi (* 1972 in Hyderabad , Pakistan ) is a Pakistani painter and installation artist . He lives in Lahore , where he teaches at the National College of Art.

Life

Qureshi studied miniature painting at the National College of Art in Lahore . There he was the first chairman of a puppeteer club in 1992. In the 1990s, Qureshi increasingly turned away from miniature images and towards large-format paintings and installations. In his works he mainly uses traditional elements of the Mughal tradition, which he combines with abstract painting. Thematically, however, he refers to contemporary violent events.

  • In 2011 Qureshi received one of the main prizes of the Sharjah Biennale for his installation Blessings Upon the Land of My Love (Blessings for the land of my loved ones)
