building

MACRO Testaccio (formerly MACRO Future) branch in the
Testaccio district

The museum was housed in a restored Peroni brewery on Via Reggio Emilia. When the French architect Odile Decq expanded the building, it received a new wing with an entrance on the corner of Via Nizza and Via Cagliari. The museum's exhibition area increased to 4,350 m² and the total area to 13,940 m². A library, a restaurant, a large terrace and an underground car park were created. In addition, Decq integrated two studios in the new wing, which are awarded annually by a commission of experts to selected artists in order to support them.

In addition to the main building, the museum also has exhibition facilities in Testaccio . Since 2003 a former slaughterhouse from the 19th century has been used there under the name MACRO Testaccio (formerly MACRO Future) on around 5,000 m². In 2007 the exhibition pavilion La Pelanda was added on Piazza Orazio Giustiniani.
