Nikolaus "Niki" Zitny (born February 2, 1973 in Vienna ) is an Austrian professional golfer .

Career

Zitny attended the Schottengymnasium in Vienna . He didn't get into golf until the age of 14 after vacationing in Ireland with his parents. Originally a talented pianist, his passion for golf got out of hand, and after an extremely successful amateur career with four Austrian championship titles, winning the Swiss championship and participating in the Eisenhower Trophy three times , Zitny became a professional golfer in 1999 .

After several unsuccessful attempts to qualify for the European Tour , he managed to qualify for the 2005 season of the major tournament series through the Tour School in autumn 2004 . Zitny could not assert himself, however, and so he is currently playing on the second-ranked Challenge Tour and the third-ranked Alps Tour . After the 2008 season he ended his professional tournament career and was hired by the Austrian Golf Association as head of the sports department.

From August 2005 to November 2008 Niki Zitny was married to the former world-class runner Stephanie Graf , who often accompanied him on the laps. The couple have had a son since January 2006. He is very good friends with Austria's most famous professional golfer Markus Brier and was also his best man .
