The Nikkō National Park ( Japanese 日光 国立 公園 , Nikkō Kokuritsu Kōen ) is a national park in the Kantō region on the Japanese island of Honshū . It covers an area of ​​114,753 hectares and was declared a national park on December 4, 1934, along with four other parks. The park extends over the three prefectures of Tochigi , Gunma and Fukushima . In addition to a rich flora and fauna, the park also offers a large number of mountains and hot springs ( onsen ). With the IUCN Category V, the park area is classified as a Protected Landscape / Protected Marine Area . The Japanese Ministry of Environment is responsible for the management of the national parks.

On August 30, 2007, the western areas around Ozegahara (Oze Moor) were spun off as an independent Oze National Park .
