Niklaus von Flüe , also Niklaus I , (* 1504 in Sachseln ; † 1597 ) was a Swiss politician.

family

His father Walter von Flüe was a son of the hermit Niklaus von Flüe (brother Klaus). Niklaus von Flüe married Dorothea Windlin. His son Niklaus II (around 1531–1611) ruled twice as Landammann in 1506/07 and 1610/11. In 1551 von Flüe was a partner in the iron mine in Melchtal .

Offices

In 1536 von Flüe was a representative of the Sachsler church members before the Fifteen Court. From 1540 he was a member of the Court of Fifteen several times. In 1550 he was involved in the opposition movement against the government. In the years 1552, 1557, 1560, 1565, 1568, 1572, 1576, 1580, 1585 and 1589 he was Obwalden Landammann . Between 1552 and 1589 he was almost constantly the delegate of the Obwalden assembly . In 1591, von Flüe seems to have resigned from the Ammännerkollegium.

In his coat of arms, Niklaus von Flüe led in red on three white rock spikes a white ibex striding to the right with the inscription on the rolled up slogan: "S • KLOVS • VON • FLV". His son used the same seal.
