Niklaus von Flüe (historian)

Niklaus von Flüe (born April 16, 1934 in Kerns ; † October 26, 2013 in Sarnen ; legal resident in Sachseln ) was a Swiss historian , author and teacher.

Life

Von Flüe spent his youth in Sarnen . He received his doctorate in 1960 from the University of Freiburg i.Üe. In his doctoral thesis in Obwalden at the time of the Helvetic Republic , he began as a historian to work through the Obwalden history of the 18th and 19th centuries. He taught history at the Solothurn Cantonal School . In 1983 he switched to the Reussbühl Cantonal School in Littau , where he also taught history from 1983 to 1995; from 1983 to 1997 he was the principal of this school. He was retired in 1997 and lived in Kerns.

Von Flüe wrote numerous books and publications on Obwalden history. In cooperation with the historical association Obwalden, many of his books have been published in the association's "Obwalden history sheets" series.

Von Flüe worked for the Historical Lexicon of Switzerland and authored over a hundred articles in this lexicon.
