Niko Pucic

Niko Pucić (born February 9, 1820 in Dubrovnik , Austrian Empire , † March 13, 1883 Austria-Hungary ) was a politician and journalist and brother of the writer Medo Pucić (1821-1882).

Because of his father's illness, Niko Pucić gave up studying and lived in Dubrovnik from 1838. He managed the family estates, but also went on long trips. Like his brother, he maintained relations with the representatives of political and cultural life in the monarchy, especially in banal Croatia , and after 1860 became an active representative of the national movement in Dalmatia. As a member of the Dalmatian and Croatian state parliament (1861), he was positive about working with the Scherling cabinet. From 1867 to 1869 he was Vice President of the Dalmatian Parliament . Then he withdrew from politics and only took part in cultural life. Pucić was the first editor of the newspaper "Dubrovnik" and in 1878 he was one of the founders of the newspaper "Slovinac".
