Rosária Corte-Real

Rosária Maria Corte-Real de Oliveira ( Rosalia Maria Corte-Real ) was the Minister for Education and Culture in East Timor from 2006 to 2007 . She was also responsible for youth and sport.

Career

In 1965 Corte-Real graduated from primary school in Same ( Manufahi ). Between 1966 and 1970 she attended the secondary school Escola de Professores do Poste Escolar ( School for Teachers for Teaching ) in Canto Rezende / Dili . From 1970 to 1971 Corte-Real was director of the primary school in Bobonaro , 1971 to 1972 of the primary school in Bazartete , 1973 to 1974 of the primary school in Hato-Udo and 1975 of the primary school in Bidau .

In 1975 East Timor declared itself independent from the Portuguese colonial power , but only nine days later it was occupied by Indonesia .

1980 to 1981 Corte-Real took part in a training course for teachers in Dili, which was followed from 1985 to 1989 by training to obtain a teaching license at the IKIP Sanata Dharma in Yogyakarta on Java . In 1990 Corte-Real became the head of the teachers department in the Department of Education and Culture in Dili. From 1997 to 1999 Corte-Real finally studied at the Gajah Mada University in Yogyakarta, where she received her master's degree in public administration.

In 1999, the majority of the population of East Timor voted for independence from Indonesia in a referendum . Because of the atrocities in which Indonesia's armed forces were involved, the United Nations took control of the country until East Timor was finally granted independence in 2002.

Corte-Real was elected MP for FRETILIN in the elections to the constituent assembly . With the restoration of the country's independence in 2002, the assembly became the national parliament of East Timor . Here Corte-Real was Vice-Secretary of the Presidium from June 25, 2002 until she had to give up her seat in September 2002, as she was appointed Deputy Minister for Education in elementary and secondary schools.

In 2006 there were serious unrest in East Timor as a result of which Prime Minister Marí Alkatiri had to resign. The new Prime Minister José Ramos-Horta appointed Rosária Corte-Real as the new Minister of Education. So she replaced Armindo Maia .

In 2007 the parliament was re-elected . Rosária Corte-Real was no longer a member of the new government. Her successor was João Câncio Freitas .
