Lurdes Maria Bessa
Maria Lurdes Martins de Sousa Bessa (born August 3, 1973 ) is a politician from East Timor and deputy leader of the Partido Democrático (PD) party.

Bessa went to school at the Escola Secundária do Cerco do Porto and then attended the Faculty of Literature at the University of Porto . She later worked for Radiodifusão Portuguesa (RDP) and then for the United States Embassy in East Timor .
From 2012 to 2017 Bessa was a member of the National Parliament of East Timor , leader of the PD and head of the Commission for Foreign Affairs, Defense and National Security (Commission B). In the 2017 elections , Bessa was no longer on the PD's electoral list and thus left parliament.
She is the treasurer of the board of the organization South East Asian Parliamentarians against Corruption SEAPAC .
On September 15, 2017, Bessa was sworn in as Deputy Minister of Education . Her term of office ended on June 22, 2018 when the Eighth Government of East Timor took office.
