Nikolai Muralov

Nikolai Ivanovich Muralow ( Russian: Николай Иванович Муралов ; * 1877 ; † February 1, 1937 ) was a Russian revolutionary and commander of the Red Army .

Muralov joined the Bolsheviks in 1903 and was a leader of the 1905 revolution . In 1917 he led the uprising in Moscow and became the organizer of the Red Army - he was the commander of the Moscow military district. He later became Deputy Commissioner for Agriculture and Inspector of the Red Army.

Trotsky's close friend became a founding member of the Left Opposition in 1923 . In 1927 he defended it at the 15th party congress. Exiled to Siberia, he refused to surrender. In 1936 he was arrested and sentenced and shot in the second Moscow trial ("Trial of 17") .

Muralov's younger brother was the agrochemist Alexander Ivanovich Muralov .
