Kobelkoff was born into a farming family as the fourteenth child. He was severely deformed at birth, all limbs except for short stumps were missing. Despite his disability, he learned activities such as writing and drawing by jamming writing implements between his chin and the stump of his arm. From the 1870s Kobelkoff was on the move as an attraction due to his skills and handicap at curiosity shows and fairs and thus became known on many stages in Europe and America.

In 1876 he married Anna Wilfert in Budapest , with whom he had eleven children.

In 1898 he began to be interested in the possibilities of film, in 1900 the silent film "Kobelkoff" was made, which showed a short excerpt from his stage program. This was his only film recording; it is kept in the Filmarchiv Austria .

Having become wealthy through his demonstrations, Kobelkoff set up his own ride, the Toboggan , in the Vienna Prater in 1913 and became a celebrity of the Prater and Viennese society. The ride was owned by Kobelkoff's family until the 1970s.

Kobelkoff died in January 1933 in his house in Vienna, some of his show utensils are now on display in the Vienna Museum of Entertainment Art (MUK). Kobelkoff's honorary grave is located in the Protestant cemetery in Simmering .
