Minsky sympathized with the Russian Revolution and the socialists. With his radical emphasis on artistic individualism, he exerted a great influence on the Russian symbolists . The well-known Russian painter Ilya Repin immortalized Minsky in his work “Refusal to confess before execution” (1879–1885) - on a cot in prison, with the perplexed priest in front of him. Allegedly his words were said: “Forgive me that I loved the poor and hungry like brothers”. (State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow, inv. No. 774) Acquired by Minski himself in St. Petersburg in 1892.
