Nikolai Platonovich Patrushev

Nikolai Platonovič Patruschew ( Russian: Николай Платонович Патрушев , scientific transliteration Nikolaj Platonovič Patrušev ; born July 11, 1951 in Leningrad ) is a Russian officer. From August 9, 1999 to May 12, 2008, he was head of the FSB's domestic intelligence service .

Life

Patrushev became head of the FSB in 1999 as the successor to Vladimir Putin . In 2006 he is said to have approved the murder of Russian intelligence officer and Putin critic Alexander Litvinenko .

Since 2008 Patrushev has been Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation .

On July 25, 2014, following the controversial annexation of Crimea by Russia, he was placed on the sanctions list of the European Union .

Patrushev has the degree of Doctor of Philosophy ( Ph. D. ), the rank of Army General and has been awarded several medals, including as " Hero of the Russian Federation ".

His eldest son Dmitri Patrushev has been Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation since May 18, 2018.
