Mykola Wladyslawowytsch Slotschewskyj ( Ukrainian Микола Владиславович Злочевський ; born June 14, 1966 in Kiev ) is a major Ukrainian businessman and former politician. He was a member of parliament in the Verkhovna Rada for the Party of Regions . Under President Viktor Yanukovych, he headed the Ministry of Environmental Protection from July 2010 and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources from December 2010 - key positions influencing the oil and gas industry in Ukraine. Slotschewskyj was considered a businessman who used his office as minister for private interests.

Burisma Holdings

In November 2010, Slotschewskyj announced the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Ukraine planned to extract the world's largest shale gas deposit . Together with the chairman of the “Nadra of Ukraine” (NAK), Eduard Stawyzkyj , he attended the conference and exhibition “World Shale Gas - 2010” in Dallas - Fort Worth in Texas in the USA . Shale gas is obtained through " fracking " (hydraulic cracking). The visit was aimed at getting to know new technological processes, possible problems and risks in the use of shale gas deposits and exploring potential partnerships for extraction.

Slotschewskyj was dismissed from his ministerial office in April 2012 and appointed deputy secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine . He remained in this office until the Yanukovych government was ousted at the end of February 2014 after the Euromaidan protests.

From July 2010 to April 2012, Slotschewskyj was the minister responsible for the granting of gas concessions. During his tenure as minister, Burisma Holdings received a large number of exploration licenses for oil and gas and significantly increased its production. The Public Prosecutor's Office opened four investigations against him and his companies (including Burisma) because Slotschewskyi was suspected of having unlawfully exploited his ties to the state.

In London, on April 14, 2014, US $ 23 million was frozen in Slotschewskyj's accounts on suspicion of criminal conduct in Ukraine. On May 13, 2014, Burisma publicly announced that Hunter Biden , the son of then US Vice President Joe Biden , would take over a board position.

His successor in the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources in the government of Mykola Azarov was on April 20, 2012 Eduard Stawyzkyj .
