Nikolaus Bachler (born September 20, 1967 in Graz ) is an Austrian lawyer, councilor at the administrative court and substitute member at the constitutional court .

Education and career

Nikolaus Bachler attended the humanistic branch of the Academic Gymnasium in Graz , where he graduated in 1985 , and studied law at the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz from 1986 to 1993 . He graduated first in 1991 with the graduation ceremony for Master of Law ( Mag. Iur. ) From his doctorate in 1993 for Doctor of Law ( Dr. iur. ).

After completing legal practice, he was a research assistant at the Administrative Court from 1994 to 1997 . In 1997 he passed the administrative service examination and switched to the legal section of the Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management , where he was a member of the Environment Senate from 2000 to 2005 and chairman of the Supreme Agricultural Senate from 2002 to 2005 . In 2003 he completed an internship in the cabinet of the Austrian judge Peter Jann at the Court of Justice of the European Communities .

Nikolaus Bachler has been a full-time councilor of the Administrative Court, i.e. the highest judge at the VwGH, since 2006. In 2009 he was nominated by the Federal Government as a substitute member of the Constitutional Court and appointed by Federal President Heinz Fischer as such with effect from February 4, 2009.
