Nicholas Pol

Nikolaus Pol (also Nicolaus Pol ; born December 1, 1564 in Breslau , Principality of Breslau ; † February 16, 1632 ibid) was a Silesian teacher, deacon and chronicler.

Life

Nikolaus Pol was born in Wroclaw in 1564 as the son of a deacon. After attending a high school in Breslau, he studied at the University of Wittenberg from 1583 , where he later worked as a lecturer. In 1593 he got a job at the St. Salvator Church in his hometown . At the same time he was appointed to teach at the Elisabet Gymnasium . A year later he became a deacon with St. Bernhard in the new town of Breslau. From 1596 until his death in 1632 he held this position at the Magdalenenkirche .

One of Pol's most important works was the Wroclaw City Journal, which covers the period from 965 to 1623. They were written by Nikolaus Pol as handwritten manuscripts and only printed in five volumes from 1813 to 1824. The editor of volumes 1-4 was Johann Gustav Gottlieb Büsching , while volume 5 was edited by Johann G. Kunisch . The journals are a valuable source for the history of Wroclaw and all of Silesia to this day .
