Nikolaus Thiel

Nikolaus Thiel OCist (born November 9, 1969 in Linz , Upper Austria ) is the 19th abbot of Schlierbach Abbey .

Life

Nikolaus Thiel was born in Linz in 1969 and grew up in Vorderstoder . He spent his school days at Schlierbach grammar school, where he graduated in 1989. As a student of music and theology in Graz, he entered the Schlierbach monastery as a novice in 1995. After completing his studies and normal training, he was ordained a deacon on September 11, 1999 in Vorderstoder and a priest on May 28, 2000 in the Schlierbach collegiate church.

Pastoral internship in Schlierbach, chaplaincy in Kirchdorf and since 2002 parish provisional officer of Wartberg an der Krems are the stations of his priestly life so far. Within the monastery, he took over the post of deputy superior, a prior, from 2008 to 2013. Under the chairmanship of Abbot President Wolfgang Wiedermann from the Zwettl Monastery, Nikolaus Thiel was elected the 19th abbot of this monastery by the Schlierbach convent chapter on February 12, 2016. In 2018 he was appointed Grand Officer of the Papal Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem by Cardinal Grand Master Edwin Frederick Cardinal O'Brien and on September 29, 2018 in the Basilica of Frauenkirchen in Burgenland by Abbot Raimund Schreier , Grand Prior in Austria, to the Papal Lay Order invested. He is a member of the Salzkammergut Commandery.
