Nikos Veliotis

biography

Veliotis initially learned to play the classical piano up to the age of 16. He was involved in the electronic music scene in Athens and founded In Trance 95 in 1988 with Alex Machairas. He then began to learn to play the cello at the age of 21. At the end of the 1990s he devoted himself exclusively to experimental work in sound and image and performed as a soloist and in existing music groups. From 2000 he began a collaboration with the Greek music partner Giannis Aggelakas , with whom he released two albums.

In 2008 he founded Mohammad (also known as MMMD) together with ILIOS. On March 21, 2009, he turned his cello to powder in a live performance entitled 'Cello Powder [The Complete Works for Cello]' at the Install Festival in Glasgow. He has a round arch (BACH.Bogen n ° 19) with which he realizes new ways of playing the cello. He has continued to compose for dance, theater and film. From 2000 to 2007 Veliotis organized the 2:13 Festival of Experimental Music in Athens.
