Nikutai no Mon

Nikutai no Mon ( Japanese 肉体 の 門 , dt. About: "Gate of the Flesh") is a novel by Tamura Taijirō . It was published in the March issue of Gunzō magazine in 1947 and is considered one of the most important novels of the nikutai bungaku literature. It was filmed a total of five times and implemented once as a drama .

The plot revolves around the life and everyday life of a group of panpan girls, prostitutes in post-war Japan, who formed a community of convenience in the misery and chaos of Tokyo in 1946 to support each other. In this community, sexuality and emotions are subordinated to work and suppressed. One day the prostitute Maya falls in love with the escaped criminal Shintarō Ibuki and sleeps with him, which leads to abuse by the other group members as a punishment. Despite everything, in the end the girl finds her true self through her newfound sexuality .
