Nilo Catalano

Nilo Catalano OSBM (* 1647 in Castanea ; † June 3, 1694 in Dhërmi ) was the Albanian Catholic Apostolic Vicar in Himara and titular Archbishop .

Life

Catalano, born into a Catholic family of the Latin rite, took his monastic vows on March 16, 1669 in the Greek Catholic monastery of Santa Maria di Grottaferrata . He then moved to the monastery of Mezzojuso (Palermo), where he worked as a lecturer, novice master and finally abbot . After working as a pastor in Messina, he was established in 1682 as an Apostolic Visitator for the Greek Catholics to Corsica. In 1693 he went on behalf of the papal congregation De propaganda fide as Apostolic Vicar to Himara with the title of Archbishop of the Albanian port city of Durrës (Durazzo) . The following year he died in Dhërmi . He was succeeded by Filoteo Zassi .
