Nils Harald Magnusson (1944)

Nils Harald Magnusson , (* 1890 ; † 1976 ) was a Swedish geologist , mineralogist , geophysicist and petrologist , who was particularly concerned with mineral deposits.

From 1918 to 1941 he was with the Swedish geological survey ( Sveriges geologiska undersökning ). Then he was until 1951 professor at the Royal Swedish Technical University in Stockholm (of which he was also rector). He was then director of the Geological Survey of Sweden from 1951 to 1958, succeeding Per Geijer (1886–1976). He was also the chairman of the Swedish National Committee for Geodesy and Geophysics.

He dealt with iron ore deposits in Sweden and also with dating Precambrian rocks in Sweden.

In 1964 he received the Leopold von Buch badge . In the same year he became an honorary member of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers.

The mineral magnussonite is named after him.
