Nils Kopke

Nils Kopke (born April 6, 1983 in Bonn-Beuel ) is a former German judoka (weight class +100 kg).

Since the age of five, Kopke has been involved in the sport in his hometown club JC Königswinter-Siebengebirge e. V. in the Siebengebirge . His first trainer, Uwe Hupke, led Kopke to 2nd place in the international German junior championship in 1999, which also meant the jump into the national team. In 2000 Kopke started for the first time in the 2nd Bundesliga for 1st JC Mönchengladbach. Since 2002 Nils Kopke started for the Sport-UNION-Witten Annen in the 1st Bundesliga. In 2006 the team won the bronze medal of the German team championship.

Kopke increasingly distanced himself from competitive sports due to his training as a banker. After his career he worked for a large German insurer as a broker and bank advisor.

Frank Wieneke ( Olympic champion 1984 ), who was Kopke's trainer at the time at the Bundeswehr sports promotion group in Cologne-Longerich, and Richard Trautmann (Olympic Knight 1996) and double world champions Detlef Ultsch and Mihail Donciu were his national trainers, Oliver Rychter and Andreas Reeh his national trainers North Rhine-Westphalian Judo Association. Daniel Gürschner (European champion, Olympic starter Sydney 2000 ) and trainer at the Olympic base in Cologne was his trainer at the end of his career.

At the Junior World Championships in 2002 in Jeju , South Korea, Kopke was the first judoka to be disqualified using a Khabarelli technique after a rule change .
