The Nimbus Hills are a furrowed chain of hills and peaks about 14 nautical miles long in the West Antarctic Heritage Range . They form the southeastern part of Pioneer Heights . One of the peaks of the chain is the 1,810 m high mount capley .
The Flanagan Glacier flows north of the Nimbus Hills . In the south of the chain are the Samuel Nunatakker , in the southeast the Buchanan Hills . Donald Ridge leads south from the foothills of Mount Capley .
The Nimbus Hills were mapped by the United States Geological Survey as part of the survey of the Ellsworth Mountains in 1961-66 through field surveys and aerial photographs by the United States Navy . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names they named after the NASA - weather satellite Nimbus one of the Nimbus program , which on September 13, 1964. an altitude of about 800 kilometers photographs of Antarctica were made (including the Ellsworth Mountains).
