Take them

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Take them is a polka- francais by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 358). The work was performed for the first time on July 9, 1873 in the flower room of the Vienna Horticultural Society.

Remarks

The polka was put together based on motifs from the operetta Carnival in Rome . The work thus joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 356 , 357 , 359 and 360 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. The title name refers to the operetta song processed here, Take it, it be yours, and my blessing on top of that (part of No. 7 of the score). The first performance took place in the context of the concerts on the occasion of the World Exhibition in Vienna in 1873 . A specially hired so-called world exhibition band played , which was actually Julius Langenbach's band, but was conducted by Strauss. Specifically, this was a charity concert for the benefit of small businesses. The polka was later somewhat forgotten and was rarely performed, if at all.

The playing time on the CD listed under itemization is 3 minutes and 43 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
