Nisshō

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nisshō ( Japanese 日 昭 ; * 1221 ; † 1323 ) was one of the six older students of Nichiren and uncle of Nichirō . He was the only student of Nichiren older than Nichiren himself.

Like Nichiren, Nisshō was also a priest of Tendai and even after Nichiren's death he tried to reform the Tendai school. The foundation of the Myohokke-ji temple goes back to Nisshō. Within Nichiren Buddhism , he is also considered the founder of the Hama school.
