Robert Pohl (local history researcher)

Hermann Robert Pohl (born February 2, 1869 in Mallmitz , Sprottau district , Silesia; † October 28, 1956 in Görlitz ) was a German teacher and local researcher .

Life

After completing the teachers' seminar in Sagan , Pohl started teaching in Nieder Seifersdorf in the (then also Silesian) district of Rothenburg (Ob. Laus.) In 1889 . In 1895 he passed the secondary school teacher examination in Breslau and the examination for the rectorate. After a job in Landsberg an der Warthe he went back to Upper Lusatia in 1907 and took over the rectorate of the Protestant community schools II (boys 'school) and III (girls' school) in Weißwasser . Pohl retired in 1932.

Robert Pohl published several local history articles in various magazines. In addition, during his time in Weißwasser in 1923, the legend book of the Rothenburg district O.-L. , a compilation (in German) of legends from the Sorbian settlement area in the northern and the German settlement area in the southern half of the district. The following year Pohl's main work, the home book of the Rothenburg district O.-L. for school and home . This contains local studies on the history of Upper Lusatia, the geography of the district, the flora and fauna and the population groups in the area under consideration. The largest part of the work is made up of descriptions of the communities and localities in the district.

After the Sagan district was dissolved in 1932 and its western part was joined to the Rothenburg district, Pohl submitted the supplementary volume Priebus and the villages of the former western part of Sagan in 1934, now living in Görlitz .

The homeland book is repeatedly referred to in the literature on the region around Weißwasser as standard literature . Several small editions of his reprints have been published since 1990.
