history
Ankole was in the 14./15. Founded in the 18th century when East Hamitan cattle breeders ruled the Bahima , the Bantu people of the Bairu (hacking farmers) and created a hierarchy. The head of Ankole was the king with the title Mugabe or Omomugabe , who, in addition to his mother and sister, gathered a staff of advisers around him.
In this overlapping process, however, the inferior Bairu did not take over the cultural elements, lifestyles and language of the ruling Bahima, but vice versa.
On October 25, 1901, the Kingdom of Nkole was incorporated into the British protectorate of Uganda by signing the "Ankole Agreement" . Under Milton Obote , the kingdom was formally dissolved in 1967.
Although the kingdom, unlike others such as Buganda, was not rebuilt, Omugabe John Patrick Barigye, son of the last king of the Bahinda dynasty, was named Ntare VI in 1993 . crowned king.
