No Respect was a German ska-punk band founded in Göttingen . They broke up in early 2008 and gave their farewell concert on April 12th.

Band history

The band was founded around 1994 in Göttingen from the remnants of a hardcore punk band of the same name . The reason for the musical change was the desire of the band members to develop musically and to break new ground. In the founding line-up, in addition to the usual instruments in punk rock, a trumpet and the first saxophone were added to the inventory and the band began to play ska-punk. After a short time it was decided to use a trombone as well. After four published albums (Excuse my Smile, Tunes of Decline, Confidence, Unadjusted) No Respect have announced their breakup for 2008. In 2012 the band played on the 30th birthday of the youth center downtown (Juzi).

music

Musically, No Respect can be classified in the area of Ska-Punk. Often times their songs are heavily influenced by their hardcore punk roots. Many songs fall completely out of the musical realm of ska . Older recordings and publications are noticeably quieter, over the years increasingly rough elements have returned to the music of No Respect. The band itself describes their music as " Offbeat-heavy punk rock with brass".

The texts deal mainly with the joys and sorrows of everyday life, work, love, celebrations and often socially critical topics such as anti-racism, criticism of the existing conditions and resistance to state authorities.

The majority of the lyrics come from Chris, but there are also a few cover versions of old soul and punk classics in the repertoire. Influences of the musicians are primarily classical punk rock of the 70s and 80s, music of the two-tone era and its rougher successors. No Respect were one of the first bands in Germany to pick up on the development that z. B. kicked off the Mighty Mighty Bosstones . Their first album Excuse My Smile is therefore regarded as a trailblazer and impetus for the music of many other bands.

Political reference

No Respect have been using the anarchist-influenced slogan "No God, no state, no master, no slave" since they were founded . This should express the content orientation in a striking and tangible way. Her lyrics are strongly anti-fascist and anti-racist, such as B. in "No Nazi's Friend", "Human Scum" and "Anarchy". The roots of individual band members lie in politically oriented punk rock and the anti-racist skinhead movement.
