Football career in South Korea

Sang-rae was signed to Korea Housing & Commercial Bank FC after finishing university . The then coach of Jeonnam Dragons was a lot of the striker and he signed him. He stayed with Jeonnam Dragons for seven years, during which time he scored 48 goals in 153 games. After the end of the 2002 season , he left the club and went to Daegu FC . In the two years there he was only a reserve player and only scored five goals in 25 appearances. In 2004 he ended his career.

Career as a coach

His first stop was Aju University in 2007 . There he was hired as an assistant coach. In 2008 he moved to his old club, the Jeonnam Dragons, and became an assistant coach there. He stayed until 2011. In 2012 he left the club and went to Gangwon FC . There he was also an assistant coach. After a season at Gangwon FC, he moved back to Jeonnam Dragons and was again assistant coach. He held this position from 2012 to 2014, before the club made him the club's coach from 2015 to 2016. Under his leadership, Jeonnam Dragons just missed the championship games, four points behind. Overall, the season went better than the previous season. In 2016 , he qualified for the championship games for the first time in the history of the club and the K League Classic with Jeonnam Dragons. In the championship games, however, it quickly became apparent that the club did not have the necessary quality to be a serious competitor for the other teams in the championship round in the last five games. Towards the end of the season he was replaced by Song Kyeong-seob as coach and he was again assistant coach. After Song Kyeong-seob announced that he would join Asan Mugunghwa FC , he was introduced as the new coach at Jeonnam Dragons.
