Nobel (family)
The Nobels are a Swedish and later Russian industrial family who were mainly involved in the oil business .
origin
Petrus Olai (1656-1707) was given the surname Nobelius after only patronyms had previously been used in Sweden . His father's name was simply Oluf Pedersson. The name referred to the place of origin Östra Nöbbelöv ( Simrishamn ). Petrus Olai was married to Wendela Rudbeck, the daughter of Olof Rudbeck the Elder (1630–1702), and was thus a brother-in-law of Olof Rudbeck the Younger . Petrus Olai's grandson Immanuel was eventually renamed Nobel because Latin names were not in use in the military. The Nobels were also called Russian Rockefellers .
